Why Music Education?

It is frequently believed that smart children are attracted to music education or that children have to be smart to play an instrument. In reality, it is the playing of a musical instrument which enhances a child’s cognitive and emotional intelligence. Research demonstrates early training on an instrument improves children’s: abstract reasoning, creative thinking, social skills, management of emotions, motivational development, aesthetic development, self-disciplined, dexterity, coordination, listening skills, cooperative behavior, ability to compromise, flexibility. Learning to play a musical instruments from birth connects, develops, and refines the entire neurological and motor brain systems. In fact, music training, as research is now showing, may actually create neurological pathways that would otherwise not exist in the young developing brain.
